Winter Wishes

November-December

WINTER WISHES--A Coastal Kids holiday gift program to bring joy to the families of sick children.

The holidays are special time at Coastal Kids Home Care. Each year, we have several organizations and members of the community come together to purchase gifts for our CK families. We have been lucky enough to have established a "Holiday Gift Program" with the help of some awesome people in the community, but we need YOUR help to make it another year to remember.

Every Christmas season children’s organizations in the United States are flooded with gift donations. Businesses, service organizations, and the public deliver carloads of new toys, books, electronics, sports equipment, art supplies, and clothing for sick children. With so many programs designed to provide holiday gifts for children, what is unique about holiday gifting at Coastal Kids Home Care?

More than 60% of the families we serve are low or very low income. Many of these families are suffering job and housing instability and food insecurity as a result of their ongoing medical bills. These hardships have also only been increased due to the recent pandemic years. The Winter Wishes program at Coastal Kids Home Care has evolved into something unique and special, empowering our families to decide what they need most at the holidays. By gifting us with gift cards rather than gifts at the holidays, our nurses and social workers are able to give their families a bit of extra financial assistance. By giving our families a gift card, caregivers can feel a sense of autonomy to shop for their own children without the burden of wondering if they could have otherwise afforded it. And since the gift cards we ask for are to stores that also sell food, a family can make the decision to buy groceries for the month if that is what they need most for the holidays.

YOU can bring relief to stressed parents and a spark of holiday cheer to these precious children.

How you can contribute:

  1. Joining together as a family to donate gift cards to families in need.

  2. Donating cards in honor of a loved one for Christmas -- for the grandmother who has everything

  3. Bringing together coworkers to donate cards together and asking your employer to make a matching holiday gift!

  4. Encouraging your child's troop, team or class to make a holiday gift to sick kids.
